By creating an account or using LIQ, you agree to this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.
Privacy at a glance
- LIQ is free. We do not sell your personal data or show ads based on your notes.
- Study files (photos/PDFs) stay on your phone unless you run an AI feature on them.
- AI features send only the content needed for that request to AI providers (via our secure proxy when configured).
- You can export your data and permanently delete your account inside the app.
- LIQ is intended for users aged 18 and older.
1. Who we are
App name: LIQ
Package / application ID: com.liq.app
Platform: Android mobile application (and related LIQ study services)
Purpose: An AI-powered study companion that helps students organize notes,
generate explanations, Quick Review, flashcards, quizzes, mind maps, summaries, and related study tools.
LIQ is free to use. We do not charge subscriptions inside the mobile app and we do not collect payment card or bank account details.
2. Information we collect
We collect only what is needed to run the app and improve reliability.
2.1 Account information
- Email address and password if you sign up with email
- Display name / profile name you choose
- Google account identifiers if you choose Google Sign-In (email and basic profile provided by Google)
- Preferred language and similar app settings
2.2 Study content you create
- Text notes, transcribed voice notes, flashcards, quizzes, mind maps, summaries, Quick Review content, exam predictions, and study session data
- Subject / notebook organization and progress signals such as XP and streak (for study tracking and optional leaderboard)
2.3 Photos, camera captures, and PDF files
- Images and PDFs you import or capture remain stored on your device
- We do not upload full photo/PDF files to our cloud storage as a default sync step
- When you run an AI feature on a photo or PDF, the text and/or image content needed for that request may be sent to AI providers (see Section 5)
2.4 Voice / microphone data
- If you record a voice note, speech is converted to text on your device where possible
- We do not upload raw audio recordings to our servers as part of normal note sync
- The resulting text may be stored with your notes and may be sent to AI providers when you use AI features
2.5 AI usage & diagnostics
- Limited AI usage logs such as feature used, model name, and approximate token counts
- Used for service reliability, abuse prevention, and support — not for advertising profiles
- Basic technical events needed to operate authentication, sync, and notifications
2.6 Information we do not collect
- We do not sell personal data
- We do not collect payment card numbers or banking credentials
- We do not require access to your contacts or precise continuous location for core study features
3. Device permissions (Android)
LIQ requests permissions only to provide features you choose to use. You can deny optional permissions; related features will not work until granted.
| Permission | Why we ask | Required? |
|---|---|---|
| Internet | Sign-in, cloud sync, AI features, announcements | Yes for online features |
| Microphone | Create voice notes that are transcribed into text | Only if you use voice notes |
| Camera | Capture textbook pages, diagrams, or handwritten notes | Only if you use camera capture |
| Storage / files | Import PDFs and save exports/backups on your device | Only if you import/export files |
| Notifications | Study reminders and important app announcements | Optional |
On Android 13+, notification permission is requested only when the app needs to show reminders or announcements.
4. How we use information
- To create and secure your account and keep you signed in across app sessions
- To provide study tools: explanations, Quick Review, flashcards, quizzes, mind maps, summaries, exam prediction, tutor chat, and related features
- To store study data on your device and sync selected data to the cloud when you are signed in
- To show optional leaderboard rankings (display name, XP, streak) to other LIQ users
- To send study reminders and service announcements you opt into
- To keep AI services reliable (usage limits, failover, support)
- To let you export a local backup from Settings
5. AI processing & data sharing
When you use AI features, LIQ sends the study content required for that request (for example note text, extracted PDF text, or an image of a page) to one or more AI providers. Requests are typically routed through our secure admin AI proxy so API keys stay on the server and providers can fail over for reliability.
- Google Gemini — AI text and multimodal processing
- Groq — AI text processing (failover)
- OpenRouter — AI text processing (failover)
- NVIDIA — AI text processing (failover)
LIQ does not train its own foundation models on your private notes. Third-party AI providers process your requests under their own privacy policies and terms and may retain limited request data according to those policies.
Administrators may change which AI model is preferred for reliability. This does not change the rule that your study content is used to provide the feature you requested.
6. Where data is stored
- On your device: local study content, photos/PDFs you import, and app settings (via on-device storage)
- In the cloud (when signed in): account profile and synced study records (notes metadata/content fields, flashcards, usage counters) hosted with Supabase
- With AI providers: only the content included in an AI request you trigger
Photos and PDF binaries are designed to remain on-device. Cloud sync focuses on account and study records, not bulk upload of original media files.
7. Security
- Network traffic uses HTTPS/TLS
- Authentication and cloud database access are protected by Supabase auth and access controls
- Admin tools are restricted to authorized LIQ administrators
- You should protect your phone with a lock screen and keep the app updated
- No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure; we work to protect your data with industry-standard practices
8. Third-party services
LIQ relies on the following categories of service providers:
| Service | Role | Data involved |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase | Authentication & cloud database | Account, synced study records, AI usage counters |
| Optional Google Sign-In; Gemini AI | Account identity; AI request content when Gemini is used | |
| Groq / OpenRouter / NVIDIA | AI failover providers | AI request content when those providers are used |
| Telegram | Optional support channel | Only what you choose to send in support chats |
| Focus audio APIs (e.g. Deezer or similar) | Optional timer / focus music | Playback requests only; not your study notes |
These providers process data under their own privacy policies. We do not sell your personal information to third parties.
9. Data retention & deletion
- We keep your account and synced data while your account remains active
- Local data remains on your device until you delete it, clear app data, or uninstall (device OS behavior may apply)
- When you delete your account in-app, we permanently delete associated cloud account data such as profile records, synced notes/flashcards, and AI usage logs, and wipe local app data where the app can do so
- Backup copies in provider systems may take a short additional period to fully clear through normal backup cycles
- Content already sent to an AI provider for a past request is subject to that provider’s retention rules
10. Your choices & rights
- Access / export: export a local backup from Settings in the app
- Correct: update your profile and study content inside the app
- Delete: Settings → Privacy → Delete Account
- Permissions: revoke camera, microphone, storage, or notification access in Android system settings
- Sign out: end the cloud session from the app; local guest/offline data may remain on the device until cleared
- Contact us: request privacy help using the email below
11. Children’s privacy
- LIQ is intended for students and users aged 18 and above
- We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 18
- If we learn that an account belongs to a user under 18, we will delete that account and associated data
- Parents or guardians who believe a minor has created an account should contact us immediately
12. International processing
LIQ is built for Ethiopian students, but infrastructure and AI providers may process data on servers located in other countries. By using LIQ, you understand that your information may be transferred to and processed in countries where privacy laws may differ from those in your country of residence. We take steps to use reputable providers and encrypted transport.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect product, legal, or security changes. The “Effective” date at the top will be updated when changes are published.
